Raving AND behaving at Clubbercise Ely – a workout with a difference!

Banging tunes, glow sticks, funky moves… Anyone entering Treetops Soft Play on Monday would be forgiven for thinking they’d just wondered into a hot new club.

But those planning to take part in Clubbercise Ely’s opening night on January 23 will be raving AND behaving, getting a wicked workout while dancing to some old school classics.

Professional dancer Nikki Dyer has swapped the West End for the East of England, and is inviting people to “bring a night out to your work out” with her hi-energy, feel-good fitness concept.
Unlike other exercise classes, Clubbercise is done in the dark by glow stick light – so podium bunnies and wallflowers alike can get into the groove.
Nikki told Spotted in Ely: “It’s done like this to help people that have insecurities about going to the gym or fitness classes where they think they might be watched and judged.
“As it’s dark they can’t be seen!”
She’s hoping to attract “anyone who is up for fun whilst getting fitter, old school aerobics to club tunes, who could ask for more!
“And as this is the first time in Ely I’m hoping it can attract a wide range of people.”
She describes Clubbercise as a modern take on Mr Motivator, combining fitness and fun.
The Littleport mum of two decided to bring Clubbercise to East Cambridgeshire after her co-dancer in We Will Rock You and close friend, Giorgia Barberi, introduced Clubbercise to Bedford.
“She suggested I jump on the band wagon and I’m so pleased she did!”
Nikki says people don’t need to book a block of classes but can just turn up on the day, getting as much out of the workout as they put in.
“The work out level you take it to is entirely up to you, give as much or as little as you want, that’s the beauty of it!
“Bring yourself in bright colours that you can move in, trainers and £5 for the class and £5 for your Clubbercise glow sticks and you’re away!”
Her class can take up to 50 people at a time but even before the first one has started, there has been so much buzz that Nikki’s looking at setting up a second venue in a month or two.
The former CATS cast member will be bringing some slinky moves to her fitness classes, inspired by her love of clubbing.
Back in the day, she was a familiar face at London’s iconic club Fabric but says she would struggle to pull an all-nighter these days.
“Being a mum has toned that side down!”
Originally from Portsmouth, Nikki moved to London at the age of 13, later training as a professional dancer at the Sylvia Young Theatre School and Doreen Bird College of performing Arts.
She relocated to Littleport after meeting her fiancé Dan in Australia a decade ago, and when she’s not busy preparing for their wedding this June, she’s looking after sons Freddie and Sid, who will be celebrating their sixth and second birthdays in February.
Serious respect!
Clubbercise Ely will take place at Treetops Soft Play, Lancaster Way Business Park, Witchford, every Monday from 6.30pm to 7.15pm.
