Robins on a Season to Remember as they face Shepshed in FA Vase

What a run of great Football the Robins are having in the Vase this year and let’s hope it continues as Spotted in Ely sponsors the home game for the 4th round against Shepshed Dynamos on January 7th.

This will be their 6th game this year in the Vase as they had to play in 2 qualifying games to be able to enter the FA Vase draw proper.
The first qualifying game was back in September against Kirkley & Pakefield FC where it was a draw after 90 minutes. With extra time Ely scored 2 more goals to Kirkleys one and won with a 3-2 aggregate.
The Robins 2nd qualifying game was also at home against Diss which saw a 6 goal thriller, 4 of which went Ely’s way. This result had the Robins in the 1st round proper and drawn against Northamption on Chenicks FC at their ground. A sterling performance from the whole team saw them sail through 3-1.
Round 2 saw them face Wadham Lodge FC and were massive underdogs. Despite relentless pressure, Ely won away by a 2 goal clean sheet.
To qualify for the 4th round proper they had to face a tough opponent away at Welwyn Garden City. Goals from George Darling, Craig Neal and Kelvin Enaro brought a win that now sees The Robins face Shepshep Dynamos at home and the residents of Ely City can help make a difference.
Despite not having a great run in the Thurlow Nunn league this year, Ely City FC is determined to carry on their form through the FA Vase which, if successful, could see them playing at Wembley in the final.
The FA Vase was established in 1974, replacing the old FA Amateur Cup and has several hundred teams from across the UK competing. From the money aspect, Buildbase who sponsor the competition award escalating prize money to teams in the competition. For many teams, including The Robins, this money is vital to their survival.
The biggest match for Ely City FC in many years is to be played on Saturday 7th January and kick off is at 3pm. Gates open at 2pm and with hot food and a bar, the club would like to welcome new spectators as well as the regulars.
