One of Ely’s most enigmatic characters, Nigel Clarke, died suddenly last weekend.
For more than 30 years Nigel worked at King’s Ely in many roles including Estates Bursar and Lab Technician. He retired just 5 years ago.
Even while working at King’s he was a very active member of Ely’s community. He will be remembered most for his work on the Christmas Light’s and for becoming a City Councillor for a term of 4 years.
Recently Mayor Lis Every presented Nigel with a Volunteer award at the recent Celebration of Volunteers. The award was given because of his continuing work on Ely in Bloom, the Christmas Lights, Centre E and the allotments. He was also thanked for his work on the CCTV Monitoring and he was tasked to pass the certificates to the volunteers within that group of anonymous members.
Nigel’s enthusiasm for everything Ely will be missed and Ely will be sad to lose such an amazing fellow. He leaves behind wife, Carole and son, James.
