There’s been a great response to ‘Santa’s Toy Bank’ which proves the kindness and generosity of Ely, says Peter Harris who came up with the idea to help parents who are finding it hard to afford presents for their children this Christmas..
Peter has the backing of St Mary’s Church which is the main drop-off point for new and unused toys.
Gifts suitable for children from 0-15 years can be taken to St Mary’s Church office between 11am-3pm from Monday to Friday 12-16 December and Monday 19th December.
“The response has been tremendous so far,” said Peter. “In my work as a city councillor I know many parents are struggling financially, especially single parents and refugees who have made their home in Ely. I’ve had offers from so many individuals and groups, including one substantial donation to be spent in Ely on toys, so that benefits the local economy too.”
Peter and his team of ‘elves’ will be at St Mary’s on 20th and 21th December between 12-6pm when gifts will be given to anyone in need.
