Sea Shanty Crew Return to Their Home Port

Isle of Ely’s Very Own Sea Shanty Crew Return to their Home Port for Their 100th Gig.

Renowned local land lubber based shanty crew Isle ‘ave a Shanty celebrated their 100th show with a homecoming gig at The Chequers in
Sutton.
Formed in 2019 and made up 6 mates – Stuart Green, Elliott Spray, Andrew Newton, Kevin King, Tony Calladine and Lee Harvey – they have been
sharing their nautical nonsense all over the UK for the last 6 years. In that time, they have released 2 albums and sold-out major venues such as Ely
Cathedral and The Gold Hinde (London), theatres such as The Bigg Theatre and The Secret Garden and playing main stages at some prestigious
festivals.
A spokesman for the band said “we are delighted and humbled to have come this far, from learning a few songs in someone’s gardens to selling out
theatres, all while maintaining the fact that we do it for fun. We love it that so many people want to come and see us and share the shanty
shenanigans, and we’d like to thank everyone that has supported us on our journey”
For their 100th gig, it seemed fitting that the band should return to their home port on the Isle of Ely, and particularly to Sutton, where half the band
live. On Friday night, The Chequers regulars and visitors alike were treated to a night of grog, noggins and a drop of Nelson’s Blood and the night was
made all the more special when landlord Harry Price presented the band with a special cake celebrating the landmark!
Isle ‘ave a Shanty have another very busy year ahead, again sharing the joy right across the UK, but also playing some local shows too including at The
Drayman’s Son (Jan), Ely Golf Club (April) and Joy Bistro, Sutton (Oct). You can find out where to see them at isleaveashanty.com
