The Tigers were eager to get points on the board early and make use of the wind advantage. Crusaders conceded several penalties which allowed the Tigers to kick for the corner. Nathan Brooks threw the ball in and joined the back of a dominant Tigers maul, they forced their way over to allow Brooks to dot down. The only other score of the half came when ever present Jacob Muncey crashed over for a converted try. The weather dampened any sort of flowing rugby and the half ended at 14-0 to the Tigers.
In the second half constant handling errors stopped Ely from crossing the line. Finally Mitchell Kennett found space and sprinted up the middle, fending off several would-be tacklers in the process, and dotted down for a converted try. Ely were unable to score the bonus point try and in the last five minutes Crusaders were awarded countless penalties. Ely were unable to keep up their solid defence with the constant barrage of attacks and Crusaders finally crossed the line in the last play for an unconverted try.
Final score 21-5 to the Tigers.
