Ely Soup’s very first event

- Was on 18th March
- Held at Babylon Gallery, Ely
- Local crowd-funding project
- Winner of £180 was ‘Ely Milks’: a local breast-feeding group
We had a fantastic launch of Ely Soup on Friday, with four great pitches from:
- Ely Foodbank – appealing for money to buy food
- Ely Library – appealing for money to buy Lego for their children’s Lego group
- Ely Milks – appealing for money to continue to fund the group
- Ely Ukulele Club – appealing for money to start a ukulele group in Ely
Organiser, Zoe Davidson, said,
“Ely Soup launched with a bang on Friday! The audience had a tough decision; each pitch they heard truly benefited the community of Ely, and were all worthy winners.
“Ely Soup is not just about funding, it is about building connections and empowering people in our community, and we very much look forward to running more Ely Soup’s in the future.”
The grand total raised on the night was a whopping £180, which was deservedly won by Ely Milks, a local company who provide a free weekly breastfeeding drop-in support group.
They offer support to mums with breastfeeding problems, as well as a friendly place to come and meet other breastfeeding mums and feel supported in their feeding choices. They are completely self-funding and receive no regular donations.
Tara Bungard, from Ely Milks, said,
“We are thrilled to have won, and the money will be put to very good use keeping our group running and benefiting our local mums.”
The lovely soup was provided by brand new Cambridge-based company, Woup Soup, and the bread rolls were kindly donated by Boswell & Son in Ely.
Zoë Loughlin from Woup Soup said,
“It has been great to talk to people who are interested in helping fight food waste. We’d like to thank the guests at Ely Soup for being our guinea pigs for our up-coming Cambridge based soup company.”
Despite not being the winners of the night, Ely Foodbank is always in need of food donations, and any spare Lego pieces would be hugely appreciated by Ely Library!
Join us at our next SOUP on Saturday 9 July Syhlet Indian Restaurant, Market Street, Ely from 12.15. We will be looking for people to pitch and they can head over to our website to submit their proposals.
