Nature-lovers were in for a massive treat this weekend, with a fabulous array of free activities for the whole family to enjoy at Bioblitz 2016.
Mini-beast tours, wild art, pond dipping and nature tours proved a popular hit with young and old alike at Ely Wildspace, the natural environment surrounding Pocket Park, also known as Ely Country Park.
Local conservationists and scientific experts led a range of activities and were able to share their love of Ely’s beautiful natural habitats and show those attending the different flora and fauna that have made Ely Wildspace their home.
Organisers of Bioblitz hope to beat last year’s record of spotting over 600 species in 24 hours.
Ely Wildspace has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its unusual geology and rare species. This gives it special protection from development, so that people and wildlife can continue to enjoy it for generations to come.
