Spotted… at Race for Life in Cambridge

A scorching hot day did not stop over 5000 women and children from taking part in today’s Race for Life event in Cambridge.
Heart FM got the party atmosphere going at Parker’s Piece. Despite the serious reason behind the event – to help find more cures for cancer – the mood was mostly one of celebration, although there were also many tears shed as people remembered loved ones they had lost to the disease.
After a warm-up on the common, it was time to get going! Numerous teams and individuals from across East Cambridgeshire were among those pounding the pavements, taking in the scenic Backs, Kings College and Cambridge City Centre as they ran, walked or jogged 5k or 10k tracks to raise money for Cancer Research.
Along the way they were cheered on by masses of spectators, supporters and well wishers.
Many of those participating in the Race for Life – known as the Pink Army – wore emotional tributes to family members and friends who had been affected by cancer.
Some of those taking part have survived cancer themselves – largely thanks to other people who have taken part in previous races to raise money for Cancer Research.
Our local teams included an incredible turnout from Stretham Primary School, Team Tesco Ely and L.A.Golden Bean in Ely.
Spotted in Ely’s Jenni (My Pace Or Yours) and Tali (Team Talon) also took part.
Well done everyone! Amazing effort!
