There has never been a better time to employ an apprentice or start an apprenticeship, yet many businesses in the area remain unaware of how to recruit locally.
As part of National Apprenticeships Week, Mayor of Ely Lis Every and District Councillor for Sutton Lisa Stubbs met with Senior Operations Manager Bernel Alberga, at Elean Power Station in Sutton, to help spread the word on Apprenticeships.
Elean is the largest straw fuelled power station in the world and the first in the UK. They had employed three apprentices through Cambridge Regional College but were not aware they could reach out to local secondary schools. Now with vacancies for two apprentices, Elean can offer a great opportunity to local students.
Some of the country’s top employers are offering work experience, traineeships and apprenticeships to help give young people the best start in their career. By spreading the word on apprenticeships Mayor Lis Every and Councillor Lisa Stubbs hope Local businesses can give those same opportunities to young people in their area.
