For the fourth year running Ely City WI are taking part in the Climate Coalition’s
campaign ( www.theclimatecoalition.org/show-the-love ).
The WI has a proud history of taking action to protect the environment being a
founding member of The Climate Coalition ; protecting what we love from Climate
Change and lobbying politicians to prioritise tackling the issue.
Every February hundreds of WIs take part in the campaign which revolves around
community-based climate change action around Valentine’s Day and it is the
biggest conversation opportunity to raise awareness of climate change. Ely City
WI #showthelove by crafting green hearts for public display to highlight a call for
action to create a cleaner, greener world.
Our dedicated and talented members have knitted, drawn, sewn, crocheted, stuffed and
created a plethora of green hearts as part of the ongoing awareness to tackle climate
change. The showcase of all sorts of green hearts is in support of the action to help
mitigate climate change and can be found proudly displayed outside Sessions House on
Lynn Road and inside Ely Library Foyer.
A spokesperson for Ely City WI said “climate change impacts on many of the things that
we love. The campaign encourages us to work with our community to raise awareness
and take action to make a difference to the world we live in. Our aim is to make a big
impact on this important issue. Together we can show the love for our places, people
and life we want to protect”.
