THE old adage of ‘if you want to learn something, learn it from the best’ has come into play this week for a local tennis coach.
Coaches from around the world (including Sebastien Scaux from 10is Academy in Ely) have been taking part in the annual “LTA Coach Conference”.
“Learning from the likes of Louis Cayer and Judy Murray is fantastic. Louis Cayer, took Jamie Murray to Doubles No 1 in the world and learning from him is just unbelievable. 10is Academy has been offering specialised doubles training every Monday at Ely Tennis Club and I can now guarantee you that our doubles coaching is world class” said Sebastien smiling.
The 10is team is ready to embark on fresh pastures with their tennis camps.
Former “Cambridgeshire Coach of the year” said: “There is a growing appetite for tennis in the area. Our weekly courses are full and our summer camps are already filling up.”
“Young players find that by taking part in these summer camps they can improve their game quickly. This is our 6th year of camps and the numbers continue to grow. We already have some camps which are close to being full. There is such a demand for tennis just now.”
The whole 10is team is happy with the current tennis season. Tennis coach Chanre Bond, who has won a bronze medal in the “Indoor Hockey World Cup” this year, said: “I’ve really enjoyed coaching tennis – it’s great when you see your coaching come to fruition on the court. There are big plans for the game and it’s a good time to be part of it.”
Bond added: “Some of our players have excellent skills for their ages but there’s always plenty to work on. This weekend 2 of our girls (Alisa Chirgadze and Georgia Shields) lost in the quarter finals of the HSBC road to Wimbledon. It was a great result but we want to improve on that.”
Youngsters between the ages of 4 and 18 from all over the fens, as well as abroad (France, Spain, Russia, Germany…), will take part in skills sessions, team challenges and specific tailored coaching at Ely Tennis Club and King’s School.
At the conclusion to each week’s five-day camp, awards will be presented to the players.
