Tennis Matches Went Ahead This Weekend Despite the Early Wet Conditions

What was a soggy start to the day turned into a great afternoon for tennis at 10is Academy Ely

In the National League Division 1, the 12 and Under 10is girls defeated Cambridge Lawn tennis Club. Young Sophie lost her first set 2-4 but fought valiantly to win the second set 4-2. In the deciding set (a tie break to 10 points with 2 points clear) Sophie fought all the way to the end to take the win 11-9.

In the second singles match, Charlotte had a very similar match, losing the first set 2-4 before wining the second set 4-2 and the tiebreak 10-3

The doubles rubber didn’t matter but the 10is girls gave their whole only losing in the tiebreak despite a match point; 3-4 (5-7) 4-1 10-12.

The girls set the scene for the Men 2 against Great Shelford. 10is Academy’s Men second pair, Chris & Ed was almost untouchable in their first match with a 6-3 6-1 win.

On court next to them, the first pair, Max & Jordan, played a solid match against Great Shelford top pair to take the match 6-4 6-4

In the reverse matches, Chris & Ed after a slow start nearly created an upset in the second set – Final score 2-6 6-7

It was up to Jordan & Max to win the match for the home team with a straight forward 6-3 6-2 win.

Early afternoon, the Ladies 1 were on court against Papworth Everard. The performance of the day came from Lingling & Mutsuko with a 6-3 6-3 win in their first match followed by a 6-0 6-1 win in their second match.

New player Caroline was partnered with Helen. Despite Caroline’s excellent performance and Helen’s solidity at the back of the court, the pair lost both of their matches 2-6 0-6 and 2-6 6-7

The two losses resulted in a 4-4 draw overall. The women were 2 points away from stealing the overall win when Helen & Caroline pushed Papworth’s second pair to 5-5 in the tiebreak.
