Who knew that Littleport could become the central location for Speed Skating in the UK with the bold plan from Lyn Guest de Swarte.
Lyn, a keen Fenland Skater has decided to take up the challenge of building an indoor stadium and even negotiated for land and is now underway for funding with the assistance of the National Ice Skating Association.
Fen Skating to some is a legacy passed down from generation to generation when the swamps and marshlands between Cambridge and Kings Lynn would freeze over and animal bones would be used to help travellers through the rough terrain.
This year, UK Longtrack Championships had to be run in Holland as the climate is changing and the water didn’t freeze strong enough.
