The City of Ely Council has recently installed three new defibrillators at some of their sites and wanted the public to be aware of their locations.
These are located at Ely Cemetery, Beech Lane, on the side of the chapel; on the river front path near the Maltings and next to Jubilee Gardens and one within Oliver Cromwell’s House on St Mary’s Street.
Details of their locations and hours when they are accessible have also been added to The Circuit – The National Defibrillator Network – a database which connects defibrillators to NHS ambulance services across the UK, so that in those crucial moments when someone is having a cardiac arrest, they can be accessed quickly to help more people survive.
The defibrillators on the outside of buildings are stored in tamper-proof boxes and unlocked with a PIN code given over the phone by a 999 operator. They cannot be misused as they only deliver a shock if they cannot detect a heart rate in the patient.
The Council feels these are a very important addition to the City and could help save lives if such a situation should occur in the vicinity of these locations, where a defibrillator is needed.
