A bright start for the home side, with Ely taking an early lead following a penalty by Jake Alsop.
From the restart Ipswich apply pressure on the home side, from the line out, Ipswich push towards try line, but the home side hold the ball up, giving the home side the chance to clear their lines.
First try of the afternoon comes from an Ely scum, ball out to the right to Paul Dewey, who goes over, Jake Alsop adds the extra points, a penalty to Ely, in front of the posts, gives Alsop another chance, slotting over from 27 meters to extend the lead, with half time approach, Ipswich post their first points on the board with a try, extra points added, 13-7
The start on the second half, sees Ely awarded a penalty try, much to the confusion of the Ipswich players, it also saw the visitors go down to 14 men, from the restart Ipswich hit straight back, crossing the try line to close the gap, 20-12, they were unable to add the extra points, with the ball hitting the upright
The visitors make three changes as the visitors continue to peg Ely back in their own half, and it was the home side that were reduced in numbers as John Dibb gets shown a yellow.
Finally, the pressure tells as Ipswich cross the try line to close the gap, 20-17, as the extra points were missed Ely hit back with open the gap, with the ball going from left to right along the try line, with Sheridan Mead crossing over in the corner after a well worked move, Alsop added the extra points to open a ten point lead, Alsop extends the lead with another penalty, Jim Storey breaks free along the touch line to power over the try line to claim the bonus point, Alsop was unable to add the extra points.
With the game closing, from a line out, Ipswich cross the line, to also claim the bonus point, with the extra points added the game finished in 35 – 24 win for Tigers
