You can join with nature experts, wildlife charities and some very special Fenland characters from the past in Haddenham, Rampton and Over this summer.
Across three dedicated dates and locations, experts will be on hand to help people of all ages to discover the wildlife living in the local area. With tailor made talks, table top displays and hands-on activities (including planting wildflowers to take home and grow), these events are set to celebrate and champion local wildlife right on the doorstep of fenland communities.
Wildlife organisations and local groups such as the RSPB, South East Cambridgeshire Mammal Group, and Conservation Societies will be on hand to share their ongoing work to support wildlife within Cambridgeshire, and visitors will discover lots of ways to get directly involved too.
And we’ll be joined by real-life ‘characters’ from the past; hearing stories about what they did (or didn’t do) to help conserve nature in our area. Listen and decide if they are Fenland Heroes or Villains!
Join us in:
- Haddenham on Saturday 18th June – at Fairchild’s Meadow, Chewells Lane
- Rampton on Friday 29th July – on the Recreation Ground, King Street
- Over on Wednesday 10th August – on the Village Green, opposite the Primary School
From 11am – 2pm at each location
Open For Nature days are brought to you by the team at New Life on the Old West: a three-year programme designed to deliver small-scale habitat improvements in the arable landscape, the extensive ditch network, and community green spaces deep within the Cambridgeshire Fens, close to the Old West River. The wildlife inspiration activities at our Open for Nature Days, and programme activity more widely, have been made possible thanks to funding by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to learn about nature – simply turn up and enjoy the fun!
