INSTRUMENT ENGINEER

LOCATION: Ely, Cambridgeshire

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Permanent

HOURS OF WORK: 0900-1700 Monday to Friday (35 hours per week)

We are seeking an experienced Instrument Engineer, preferably with a history of working on bespoke engineering packages for the oil and gas industry.

Main duties include:
•Providing engineering support for instrumentation and electrical scope
•Resolution of technical issues relating to instrumentation
•Preparation and checking of documents including hazardous area drawings and calculations relating to instrumentation
•Definition and approval of technical scopes
•Obtaining quotations from suppliers and sub-contractors, reviewing quotations
•Reviewing plant layout with respect to instrumentation and electrical
•Attendance during inspection and testing relating to instrumentation
•Attendance during internal and customer meetings, providing technical expertise to the business
•Contributing to assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance
•Ensuring that designs comply with the relevant procedures, standards and regulations
•Keeping up to date with technical developments, National and International Standards and legislative requirements related to the discipline.

Candidates applying will be expected to have previous experience of instrumentation and/or electrical engineering, ideally within the Oil & Gas industry, knowledge of relevant regulatory framework and legislation, with proficiency in scope definition. Familiarity with AutoCAD would be beneficial.

An understanding and previous experience of the following will be expected:
•General instrumentation including Pressure/Temperature/Flow etc.
•Actuated valves
•Hazardous Area equipment
•Safety systems
•Vendor management
•Control systems and panels
•Functional testing and client management
•Previous experience within the Oil & Gas industry would be beneficial.

A MSc or MEng or equivalent educational level in a relevant discipline would be preferred, though not essential, however, sufficient experience in a similar environment is mandatory. Offshore experience and current/valid BOSIET, MIST and Medical Certificates would be an advantage.

This is an office-based role, although some travel to our workshop in South Wales or to customer sites may be required from time to time.
