Heading quickly towards Spring, members of Ely City’s Women’s Institute have been able to make the most of their monthly meet ups and enjoy friendship, conversation and a range of activities.
March’s meeting was jam-packed (although not in the traditional WI sense of course!). The guest speaker was Marie Brown from Inheritance Legal Services in Ely who gave an informative overview on Wills, Trusts, Power of Attorney and other main points about the importance of getting affairs in order.
The second half of the meeting was a craft activity delivered by our very own Helen and Margaret; foam flower making for Jubilee decorations. Everyone commented on how therapeutic and easy this simple craft was and many of the members enquired where to obtain the necessary materials. Looks like there may be more flowers blooming!
Since their last WI meet in February, members have enjoyed coffee mornings, meet ups and diners’ club. Just a few sub-groups that have formed from the main WI. With many exciting plans for spring and summer; including group projects, events, fundraising and socialising, Ely City WI really is at the helm of driving forward a supportive female network.
The next exciting group event will be a ‘day of action’ litter picking in Ely in order to Keep Britain Tidy. Supporting the Great British Spring Clean which takes place from 25th March to 10th April, Members will meet on 9th April at 10.30am at Paradise Field in Ely. Armed with picker sticks and bin bag hoops the idea is to blitz across Ely and tackle the litter hotspots.
But that’s not all, with the Queen’s platinum Jubilee there are plenty of plans in motion to celebrate this and join in with community events not to mention the opportunity to become involved in the various campaigns which are spearheaded by our National Organisation.
Our next meeting is on April 11th in the Old Dispensary, St Mary’s Street where our very own Vice President, Ruth Sindall, will be giving a demonstration on making gelatine flowers along with the opportunity for members to join in and make their own.
Our members, of all ages and backgrounds, come together to have fun, make friends and make a difference.
