Wilburton Theatre Group brings Dogfight to a stage near you!

It’s Nov. 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to a small but growing conflict in South-East Asia, a group of young US Marines set out for one final boys’ night of debauchery, partying, and maybe a little trouble in San Francisco. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress, and enlists her to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion. The Marines’ cruel bet involves finding girls to bring to a party, a reverse beauty contest, where the young women will be judged as to who is the ugliest. The Marine who brought the girl judged the ugliest wins the prize. But that’s not the end of this story…

Directed by DeeDee Doke with musical direction by Kathie Pugh, the Wilburton Theatre Group and a fresh, exciting cast from Cambridge, Ely, Stretham, Earith and, of course, Wilburton bring this bittersweet story to the stage of St Peter’s Hall, 41 High Street, Wilburton for four performances in April 2022.

With music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (the team behind The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen), this haunting musical is based on the eponymous 1991 Warner Bros. film and screenplay by Bob Comfort, which starred Lili Taylor and River Phoenix.

Unforgettable characters, memorable songs and a story of conflict and hope will provide an experience that will stay with you for a very long time.

Dogfight was the winner of the 2011 Richard Rodgers Studio Production Award, administered by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Parental advisory: Recommended for 15 years and over because of extensive profanity and adult situations.

Performances will take place at St Peter’s Hall, 41 High Street, Wilburton, Cambs CB6 3RA. Tickets are on sale at www.ticketsource.co.uk at £12 per person. (No concessions.)
