Win for the Men’s but loss for the 10 and Under

10is Academy No. 3 Tom Shackleton clinched his second win in the National League Division 2 while there were also victories for Jordan Timson and new player Michael Ling away at Cambridge Tennis Academy.

Team captain Shackleton led by example winning 6/1 6/3. Jordan and Michael respectively won 6/0 6/3 and 6/3 6/2. Chris Hemmings played his first official match losing 6/2 6/3.

Even though the singles, on paper, looked like a trouncing, there was plenty for 10is Academy’s players to ponder as they continue to sharpen up their game. The doubles saw Tom & Jordan take an easy win, while the 2 new 10is recruit Michael and Chris loss a hard fought match 2/6 6/2 10/4
The 10is men’s team should feel they can take some positives from that 4-2 victory over Cambridge Tennis Academy.

The 10 & under team, played earlier at home.
William Brooker learned every ounce of the word gruelling in a physical encounter. His opponent had a well-rounded big-picture game and while Brooker was doing a great job of staying very present, it was taking its toll on the smallest player who lost in a 3rd set tiebreak (2/4 4/3 8/10).

Sadly, the rest of the team struggled to impose any of their big hitting game and will learn a lot from this defeat. With 4 players competing for the 1st time, the goal was to gain some experience.

Head coach Sebastien afterward said: “Once again, our players looked technically good but we lacked experience. We are looking at the long term development with these new teams and we have some hard working players showing signs of a bright future. We must make sure they start competing on a regular basis.”

Final score 10is Academy loss 6 – 0.
