Witchford Village College Embraces Carpe Diem with New Subjects and Teachers

Witchford Village College is celebrating growth in three areas of the College in September, including the addition of Latin for students in Years 7 and 8 and Classical Civilisation, which will be studied at GCSE level. New twilight lessons will also be offered to students including German for Year 8 and Latin for Year 9 students.

As well as an injection of new subjects, Witchford Village College will be welcoming new teachers to its modern foreign languages faculty, strengthening its teaching staff. Elliot Elstob will join as a Latin and Classical Civilisation teacher and Elizabeth Catterall will join as a MFL teacher.

Bessie Owen, Headteacher at Witchford Village College says: “We are extremely proud to be part of the 12.9% of state schools that will be offering Latin to our students from September. Children who study Latin gain an advantage in multiple other academic areas. We are excited to also be offering Classical Civilisation, which will provide students with a greater understanding of the world. It is important for us, at Witchford Village College, to continue to expand the range of subjects we offer in order to prepare our students for a diverse range of opportunities in their future careers.”

Witchford Village College is a wholly inclusive secondary school which values diversity and provides its students with the opportunity to progress and develop through lifelong learning while embracing creative freedom.

Owen said: “This is a very exciting time for our whole community. At Witchford Village College, everyone from the students to the teachers is dedicated to their work and inspired by the work of those around them. We are looking forward to building a better world through education and are excited to embark on this next chapter.”
