The rain did something this weekend that not many opponents could slow down 10is Academy’s players.
The 10is Academy players had a busy weekend with 8 matches to be played over the weekend.
It all started on Saturday with the 8U playing at David Lloyd (DL) Cambridge against Peterborough and DL Cambridge. The 10is players started very well with a win against Peterborough but DL Cambridge proved too strong for our young team.
The 10U played their first home match against Cambourne. The team performed very well (despite the rain interruptions) winning all their matches (10 out of 10). The 9U started their 2019 campaign away at Cambourne.
Isobel Whittaker, Charlie McGuiness, Lily Jones and Joe Shackleton overcame both challenging weather conditions and competitive opposition to chalk up an impressive 10-2 win.
All players won their singles games and only one of the doubles matches was lost after a closely contested match.
Just 24 hours later, they were back on court at DL Cambridge. Although the venue was different, the results continued with the trend of the weekend. They asserted their dominance, winning 8 out of their 10 matches.
They were not the only 10is teams to record a victory on Sunday. The 12U Girls dominated Cambridge Tennis Academy at home. Tia Glenister, Ciara Comley, Stephanie Chirgadze and Abigail Alston recorded a 4-0 win.
The 12U Boys played Mike’s Tennis Academy at home. Jack Beddoes & James Harvey were joined by two new players: Sebastian Hogger and Oliver Jaggard. The new players gelled well and the boys recorded a 4-2 win.
Finally the 16U Girls won their home match against DL Cambridge without hitting a tennis ball. Unfortunately DL Cambridge could not feed any players against what would have been a very strong 10is team.
The 10is Academy only lost 1 match out of 8 this weekend across six age groups.
