Air Cadets Granted The Freedom of The City of Ely

We have great pleasure in announcing that our Officer in Charge of 1094 (City of Ely) Squadron Air Training Corps, Flying Officer J Donoghue RAFAC, has been advised by The Mayor of Ely Micheal Rouse that The Squadron is to be awarded The Freedom of The City of Ely.

Flying Officer Donoghue said: “This is a tremendous honour and I cannot express just how excited the staff, cadets and parents were to hear the news.
This is a rare accolade for an Air Cadet unit and I believe it to be just recognition for the cadets and staff both past and present for their commitment to the Community.
Since 1941 thousands of cadets who have come through our doors have gone on to be ambassadors of good citizenship and this honour is for them just as much as it is for the cadets currently serving.
We are all looking forward to the parade next year and celebrating this prestigious accolade”

This is a huge honour for the Squadron and every single cadet and member of staff both past and present should be proud of their contribution to the Squadron and to the community of Ely. A parade will take place in May 2020 in the heart of The City.

The Squadron feels that like so many other wonderful youth organisations in Ely that we are a real part of the fabric of The City and what makes it such a special and friendly place to live.

The Squadron OIC would like to extend an open invitation to ex-cadets and staff to attend the parade (details to be announced).

We would love to form up a (Non Marching) Flight of ex cadets on the parade to recognise the foundation that today’s cadets have benefited from.
