Two friends who recently raised over £500 in a memorial walk to remember two fellow Tesco employees who tragically died within a day of each other are holding a bingo to raise even more money for their chosen charities.
Shirley Hammond and Mel Starling, who both work at Tesco Ely, have organised the charity bingo night, which will take place on Friday, July 29, at Southery Village Hall.
The doors open at 6.30pm, with eyes down at 7.30pm, and there will be an auction and raffle, with all proceeds going to the Arthur Rank Hospice and Alzheimer’s Society – the two charities favoured by Soham grandmother Angie Squires, and March grandmother Marlene Emery, both longstanding Tesco employees.
A prolific fundraiser, Angie died of cancer on January 24, aged just 54. In her final days she was cared for by Arthur Rank Hospice.
The day before March grandmother Marlene had suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 61. Marlene’s husband Malcolm, who had Alzheimer’s disease, had also recently passed away.
On their fundraising page, Shirley and Mel say: “Marlene and Angie were wonderful ladies, full of life, and taken from us at a young age.”
