Chasing the Quadruple

In their first year as a tennis club in Ely, the 10is Academy teams are flying high and are still chasing the quadruple. 

On Wednesday, the 10is Academy men’s 1st team took another step toward the Cambridgeshire League promotion and title in Division 10. The 10is Academy’s Men 1 visited local rival Ely TC 3 to take a 7/1 win despite a surprisingly low-key performance: the 10is players’ mind maybe already focused on their next match… 

The derby win means the team is now top of the league with a better set difference than Duxford 1 and a match in hand. They will play their last match of the season in a tricky away match at David Lloyds currently third in the table. 

On Sunday, the same 10is players were back on court playing their last match in the National League. The 10is team had already won the title the previous week but were chasing records.  

In the absence of their captain, Rhys Baxter took the number 1 spot. Rhys had a hard time on Wednesday and needed to react. And what a response: he was back to his best with a commanding 6/0 6/1 win in his singles and a flawless 6/0 6/0 win in his doubles match with Tom Shackleton. 

10is Men 1 ended the season with some record-breaking stats winning every single match, winning 100% of their sets and an amazing 84.8% of their games.  

Head coach and 10is Director, Sebastien Scaux said: “Rhys has been our best player with Joshua and Tom just behind: they have been very solid in the league. And when they could not play, we had young players such as Rich, Mish and Max who stepped up.” 

In the meantime, while the 10is Ladies 2 had a convincing 8-0 win against Histon, the 10is Ladies 1 had a week off. They’re top of their division, 2 points ahead of their closest rivals with a superior set and game percentage.  

With 2 titles already won in the National League (the Under 14 girls and the Men’s 1), 10is Academy is closing on 2 titles in the Cambridgeshire league and a potential quadruple. 

10is Academy will soon celebrate its first-year anniversary as a tennis club with its members treated with special guests from the tennis world. 

10is Academy Ely is a young and vibrant tennis club who cares about your progress. Beginners are always welcomed and will be helped to develop their game, while advance players will be put through intense drills. But most importantly, we are all having fun.
