Meeting of minds and aspirations – our students discuss careers with businesses and post-16 providers
Ely Cathedral opened its doors to over 800 secondary and primary school students from all over the District on November 8th.
Over 60 local businesses, charities and post-16 providers from Further and Higher Education worked all day discussing career possibilities with Year 10 and 12 students from Ely College, Soham Village College, LECA, Witchford Village College, Bottisham Village College, Kings Ely, and Ely and Littleport primary pupils.
Quizzes, challenging activities and animated Q and A all contributed to lively discussions on future career paths. This was a totally sponsored event by local businesses, ECDC, Rotary, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, the Cathedral and FE providers who funded the buses, tables, lunch by Bishop Laney Sixth Form catering students, and hand sanitizers!
The small organising group from Ely College and STEMPOINT East were absolutely delighted with the day. Rebecca Sussex from Stempoint East said ‘The Cathedral was buzzing all day and you could see how engaged all the students were asking challenging questions and keen to find out as much as possible to help them make good career choices. The exhibitors were exhausted by the end of the day but all want to return next year!’
Research shows that this type of active school/business engagement is vital for our young people who are so keen to find out about the world of work and the possibilities there are for their future.
The organisers would like to thank everyone involved in making the day such a success. A list of exhibitors and sponsors is available on request.
