The Tigers spent the first half defending their own try line, a slight wind advantage for the opposition made a difference. Their line held strong until Cantabs finally crossed from a dominant scrum on the five-metre line.
In the second half Ely were able to use the wind to kick to the corner. Two penalties from Joel Scott Paul gave them the lead for a short period at 6-5. Moments later Cantabs crossed the whitewash through a rolling maul. In the final ten minutes Scott Paul found space down the wing and kicked to the centre, Matt McCarthy chased through and dotted it down with one hand. The Referee and touch-judges saw no clear grounding and could not award the try. Final score – 6-10 to Cantabs.
