Ely narrowly lose at home against top of the league Holt

The Tigers had a nightmare start when Holt put two tries past them in the opening ten minutes. Ely then fought back a try themselves when Luke Turner danced through the opposition defence and had enough gas to touch down under the posts. The Tigers bad start continued when Holt gained a penalty and opted to go for the posts. The shot at goal bounced of the inside of the upright and then off the crossbar and landed straight back in the opposition’s hands, a try came soon after. The Tigers then gained a penalty in the opposition half and kicked for the corner. The Ely forwards set up a dominant rolling maul and Jim Storey dotted at the back.

In the second the Tigers were chasing the game and Holt had their lead lengthened when they shipped the ball wide and dotted down in the corner. Man of the match Jacob Muncey answered their score with one of his own after dotting down for a converted try which narrowed Holt’s lead. Ely then ran out of time and were behind by 9 points. Their only hope was 2 losing bonus points. In the last play of the game Mitchell Kennett crashed over touched down for a converted try which brought the score to 32-34.
