Each year, RED January encourages people to support their mental health by building physical activity into their daily lives. This year, RED January’s charity partner is Sport in Mind, the leading sport and mental health charity in the UK.
This January, Ely Runner, Justin Smith managed to recruit over 40 fellow club members to undertake a daily activity such as a walk; run; swim; cycle; yoga or HIIT session, to raise funds and awareness for Sport in mind.
In some cases, the experience led to people rediscovering their love of running and the benefits associated with it. All activities were conducted according to the current pandemic rules.
The running mileage for the team in January was 3,835 miles, with 1,249 miles of cycling, and 4,182 yards of swiming (outdoors)!
At the time of writing, Ely Runners have raised £1,538 for Sport in Mind. You can find out what this charity does via the following link…. https://www.sportinmind.org/pages/category/who-are-we
