The Tigers were first to get on scoreboard through the boot of Joel Scott Paul after he notched two penalties to take them up to six points. The Tigers then had a scrum in opposition territory, the ball went blind to Scott Paul who was awarded a penalty try after being tackled off the ball by the opposition full-back.
In the second half Scott Paul was able to touch down when Matt McCarthy offloaded to him in space and he ran in for an easy try. Ely constantly gave away penalties which kept Newmarket in the game, they were able to cross the whitewash when they took one quickly and rumbled the ball over for an unconverted try.
Ely then fought back and man of the match Alex Milne, dummied a pass and went himself, he cut through the defence and touched down under the posts. The Tigers were brought down to 14 men for the number of infringements, Newmarket took advantage of this and threw the ball wide for an unconverted try in the corner. As the end of the game came near the Tigers fought hard for the bonus point. The Tigers took a quick-tap penalty but couldn’t quite make the line, the ball was recycled quickly and Luke Cornwell crashed over for an unconverted try. The final score; 30-10 to Ely.
