Ely’s EEL celebrations are back! Whilst it may not the usual Eel Festival, Visit Ely have bought you over the years, they are still marking occasion by holding a smaller, community event celebrating the humble Eel and all things local!
Ely’s patriotic ‘Ellie’ and friends’ will be on the East Lawn of Ely Cathedral, Saturday July 17th From 10 am until 4 pm. The Fayre opens at 10 am with Ely’s Town Crier,
Ely Mayor Cllr Austen and Cllr Arnold her consort to greet visitors. A small arena of events will be going on throughout the day, with everything from Eel Throwing (not real eels, just stuffed toys!) Can you beat the World record of over 17 metres?
There will be entertainment from KD Theatre, Living History actors, local folk music, stalls, crafts, food, and drink and more!
Come and celebrate with us, entrance from Ely High Street (Sacrist Gate) and exit Cathedral South towards Cherry Hill Park.
This will be a great family day out and a chance to commemorate Ely’s very own traditional event that has taken place in for many years – it is going to be quirkier than ever! Support your local businesses by popping the date in your diary as many will be there.
Anna Bennett, Tourism and Town Centre Manager quoted “We are very much looking forward to bringing this day back to Ely, after months of nothing! We are also eternally grateful to various local businesses that are sponsoring this event and other events planned for this year!
