Fenland foodies are in for a meatfree treat next month, when Ely Markets host their first ever vegan festival.
Organiser Alex Higgs hopes the festival will be the first in a series of events to celebrate the diversity of the markets.
“This family-friendly day is for both vegans and v-curious alike, so come along and discover an array of street food, producers, information and wellbeing.”
The Ely Vegan Fair on October 29 will bring together familiar faces with regional and national traders.
The city’s High Street will be transformed with over 20 traders planned, as well a covered seating area to share a drink and enjoy some delectable delights.
Elizabeth ‘Lizzi’ Flaherty, of Food! by Lizzi, who recently featured on Spotted in Ely after deciding to convert her vegetarian stall to a fully vegan one, will be serving up her famous vegan scotch eggs as well as other meatless treats.
Also on the line-up are Replete, selling mouthwatering flatbreads, including Indian Kulcha filled with onion bhaji & tomato and chilli chutney, Greek pitta stuffed with spinach & aubergine, Spanish flatbread filled with spicy Patatas Bravas, Sicilian Stromboli filled with sun-dried tomato, sweet peppers and garlic mushroom and Somalian Muufo corn flatbread filled with red lentil pesto for those also seeking a gluten free treat.
