Etsy Cambridge, a group of Cambridgeshire designer-makers and vintage specialists who all have shops on the global online handmade marketplace Etsy, are coming to Ely for one weekend in July. They’re holding their latest pop-up shop event in the beautiful riverside Babylon Gallery on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July, 10-5 each day. The pop-up will showcase the work of more than 25 local artists, craftspeople and vintage sellers, including Ely-based artists, and coincides with the Aquafest on Sunday 5th, adding another attraction to the riverside area on that day.
Shoppers will be able to take a break from the waterside bustle in the cool and spacious surroundings of the Babylon Gallery. The pieces on offer from Etsy Cambridge will include handmade ceramics, Bohemian-style, paper and silver jewellery, designer hand-spun and hand-dyed wool, bags made with unique handprinted fabrics, framed and unframed art prints, greetings cards, unusual homewares, fabric bouquets, clothing, artisan wooden items and vintage treasures. It’s the ideal place to pick up a summery treat for yourself or your home, and shop for locally handcrafted gifts for family and friends. Why not start your Christmas shopping really early this year? As a bonus, every purchase (while stocks last) comes with a chance to win an exclusive Etsy Cambridge goody bag filled with items from Etsy Cambridge members.
The Babylon Gallery is steps away from the famous Peacocks Tearoom, for anyone who fancies a cuppa after they’ve had a browse!
“We’re excited to have been asked to create this pop-up shop in such beautiful riverside surroundings,” said Louise Player of Etsy Cambridge. “We love Ely and we welcome the opportunity to bring the work of our members to the people of the city. We’re also keen to see some of Ely’s famous Aquafest raft racing while we’re here! Look out for our flyers and posters around town over the next few weeks, and do come and say hello on our pop-up weekend.”
Etsy Cambridge’s previous pop-up events have included successful Christmas 2014 artisan and vintage shops at the Fountain Inn in Cambridge and Mill Road’s CB1 cafe, a spring 2015 arts and crafts market inside Cambridge’s historic Round Church, a pop-up shop as part of the Women Of The World festival, and a free craft party held at the start of June. Later this summer, in conjunction with Cambridge BID (Business Improvement District), Etsy Cambridge will create a pop-up during August’s ‘Loving Summer’ events.
