Art Workshop at The Stained Glass Museum: Radiant Roundels

The stained glass museum houses a unique collection of roundels, small circular windows often depicting flora, fauna and scenes from everyday life. Take a short tour of our museum with local artist, Jane Fellows, to gain inspiration for creating your own roundels using the gel plate printing method.
Bring a sketch book or trace one of our own designs to create stencils and interesting patterns and textures. Experimenting with iridescent acrylic paints you will learn to ink up your gel plate and print in many coloured layers on to tissue paper. Your vibrant finished designs will be set into circular window greetings cards to gift to friends and family.

In this workshop Jane will take you on a brief tour of the gallery encouraging you to notice the various themes in our collection of roundels. Taking inspiration from the glass you will draw and cut out your own stencil shapes and learn to ink up your gel plate in various colours. Your stencils will be applied to the gel plate to create your chosen patterns and found objects will be impressed into the soft gel plate to create texture and interest. Paper will then be placed on top and pulled from the gel plate to produce your prints which will be set into circular window (roundel) greetings cards to take home with you.

Leaves and flower heads will be provided. We will be making our own stencils in the workshop but please feel free to bring any sketches, stencils, small leaves and flowers along with you if you wish. A small, flat leaf is best with an interesting shape and veined texture.
