Pamfir

When reformed smuggler Pamfir returns home to his village on the Ukrainian border after working abroad for several years, he’s determined to earn an honest living and set a good example for his beloved teenage son Nazar.

In a town where corruption runs deep and crime and religion are inextricably linked, Pamfir’s plan for a reformed and honest life is quickly thwarted when his son, Nazar, sets fire to the local church in a misguided effort to keep his father at home. To pay for the damage, Pamfir must take on one last job for a crime syndicate operating a risky smuggling venture in a place where all the rules have changed.

Part drama, part thriller, part noir-inflected fairytale, Pamfir is violent, raw and bloody,but also a tender portrait of a family man trying to raise his son well despite his ownshady past.

Film Finds – Pay what you can.

Thanks to funding from the BFI Film Audience Network, we are able to present our new season of Film Finds.

As we are a charity we are reliant on ticket income and your donations to ensure that Babylon Cinema at the Maltings can continue.

We know that being able to come to the cinema isn’t realistic for some, especially in the current cost-of-living crisis. As such we are using the funding to trial Pay What You Can for the Film Finds supported screening over the summer and autumn. This means you’re free to
pay as much or as little as you can afford.

Each screening costs, on average, £350 before we include time spent programming and administering the cinema. Most people pay £8 or £9 for a ticket, as such your ticket and donations are vital to keeping the Babylon Cinema alive.

By paying for a ticket or donating to Babylon Arts, you will enable us to keep offering the cinema and Pay What You Can screenings, enabling more to to experience our wonderful cinema.

The Film Finds line-up is a great way to take a chance on something a little different and experience some excellent examples of British Indie, Art House and Foreign films.

Band A: £5 – I can cover my basic needs.
Band B: £8 – I comfortably meet my basic needs.
Band C: £10 – I have expendable income and financial security.
Band D: £0 – I struggle to meet my basic needs.
