Did you know that Reg Seekings, one of the first recruits to the newly formed Special Air Service (SAS) in the summer of 1941, was from the fens around Ely? And has the Ely Southern bypass named after him?
Join Tony Rushmer as he shares the story of Reg and his journey to become one of the most highly decorated Special Forces soldiers of the Second World War.
Reg Seekings took part in daring raids on behind-the-lines airfields in North Africa, fought in Europe and helped liberate the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
In this exciting talk, based around his recently published book about Reg, Tony Rushmer, a journalist based in Ely, will chart Reg’s rise from farm labourer’s son in the fens to SAS squadron sergeant major. He will examine his service throughout the war and highlight how his fierce ambition, inner strength and courage have made him one of the SAS’s defining figures.
