Get your teeth into a role with Youth Acts UP

Budding young stars from around the Ely area are required to audition for parts in the Little Downham “Youth Acts UP” summer performance of “The Dracula Rock Show”.

The youth theatre group is inviting children and young people aged 7-15 years old for the chance to get involved in the production at open auditions on the 10th March 2018.

Little Downham “Youth Acts UP” will be performing “The Dracula Rock Show” for two shows on the 21st July 2018 with rehearsals starting in March through to the performance in July. The show is full of eccentric characters and a dynamic music score which brings together 60’s rock, a touch of 70’s disco, and even a line dance. Successful auditionees will be cast as the main characters of zombies, vampires, police and criminals. In addition to the main speaking roles, plenty of available chorus roles will combine to create a hilarious musical comedy.

Carol Hebbard, Assistant Director for Little Downham “Youth Acts UP” said: “There are many opportunities for children to be involved in our productions. We have great fun in the shows and children have the opportunity to make new friends, build confidence and learn new skills.

“The audition will be in the style of a workshop so does not need any preparation. It will involve drama games to aid relaxation and introduce the children to each other in a fun way. The children will read lines together and, if they wish to audition for a particular role, they can. We may even learn a song and dance from the show together. We’d love to see as many children as possible at the open auditions on March 10th.Come along, get involved and have fun!”

Nathanael, aged 12, has been with the youth theatre for two years. Nathanael said: “I love meeting up with different friends every Saturday and having the chance to act and sing. It’s fantastic experience for building confidence, everyone works really hard and has fun on a Saturday morning!”

Parents agree.  “My eleven year old daughter Ella-Mae loves Youth Acts UP” says Ella-Mae’s mother, Bev. “Her confidence is shining through. To see her on stage with all her wonderful cast mates at the recent show was amazing. She has learnt never give up, even if you make mistakes; which is an important life lesson.”

Rehearsals take place on Saturday mornings between 10:30am and 12:30pm in the Little Downham Village Hall, Main Street Little Downham and cast members must be available to commit to the four months of rehearsals in the run up to the shows on July 21st including a dress rehearsal on July 20th.  The Saturday morning sessions offer something for everyone: skills such as set design, costumes and props and backstage work addition to acting, singing and dancing.
