Isle of Ely Arts Festival 2017 : Week 4

Grab a blanket, grab some friends and head down to the East Lawn of Ely Cathedral on Saturday 1 July as Chapter house Theatre bring the magic of outdoor theatre to Ely with their production of Wind in the Willows.  Alive with music and song, this magical family show is presented in traditional costume. The deadline for entries to the 2018 Festival Calendar Competition closes on Saturday 1 July, so if you’re feeling creative and want to see your work on display, you can submit your photos online, entry is free, full details www.haddenhamgallery.co.uk
There are two award ceremonies on Saturday too with Ely Writers’ Day at the Library and children’s story competition Ely 501 at St Mary’s Church in Ely.
It’s the first weekend of Cambridge Open Studios as artists open their creative space to the public where you can see and buy direct from the maker. With 50 studios open in East Cambridgeshire alone, you’ll be spoilt for choice. See the full list www.camopenstudios.co.uk
 
On Sunday 2 July head down to Ely’s riverside to catch some Aquafest fun from 12- 5pm, pop into the Babylon Gallery from noon to see the fantastic David Hockney selling exhibition and at 2pm and 3pm  join us in the gallery for two half hour drop-in story telling sessions with enchanting and engaging local tales of giants, gods and cake from Snail Tales. No need to book and it’s a ‘Pay what you decide’ show – so the more you’ve enjoyed it the more you put in the bucket at the end of the show.
