Match Report: Ely Tigers vs Diss

Ely welcomed Diss to the Cambridge Commodities Park on Saturday for their last home league game of the season, knowing a win would help then secure a fourth-place finish

An early chance for Ely, as they were awarded a penalty, which Jake Alsop scores, soon after the first try of the afternoon came, with Ely playing the ball quickly a pass from Matt McCarthy setting up Ryan Edgewoth to show some quick footwork to sidestep a challenge to score under the posts, with the conversion added Tigers opened a 10 point lead, McCarthy went from provider to try score for Tigers next try, again the conversion was added by Alsop, Tigers switched off as Diss got their first try of the afternoon, conversion added to close the score to 17-7. McCarthy at the heart of the next Ely try, passing to Matt French who goes over the line under the posts under the tackle, Alsop adds conversion as the score at halftime finished 24-7.

Second half, starts with McCarthy kicking forward to the wing, where Aarron Borland picks up the ball to sprint home to score under the posts, Alsop added the conversion. Diss charged down a kick deep in the Tigers backline to score their second try of the game, conversion added, but directly from the restart, Tigers score once more as Luke Turner goes over to score, again the conversion was added. 

Diss score two quick try’s to close the gap, as it seems Ely seemed to switch off and close the gap to ten points, to give them some hope, but Tigers opened the gap further as Micheal Reeves bundles the ball over in the corner to score, Borland adds his second try of the afternoon, after a pass from Turner on the wing to score under the posts, Alsop adds the conversion as the Tiger hit the 50 point mark, as the referee blew the final whistle.
