Match Report: Ely Tigers vs Wisbech

Ely Tigers welcomed Wisbech for a local derby, it was the visitors first game since the tragic passing of Arturas Rudys during their game against Diss, Tigers welcomed the visitors with a guard of honour to pay their respects.

The home side went into a early lead as Luke Turner went over for a try in the corner, the conversion was missed as Jake Alsop put the ball to the left of the uprights, the visitors came more into the game, but is was Ely that added to the scoreboard, as Tigers win the ball at a line out on the right, the ball passes thru hands to find Jeremy Darley to race across the line, Alsop adds the conversion, Turner adds his second try of the afternoon as he goes over the line, again as the conversion is added, to open a 19-0 lead,

Tigers went down to 14 as Wisbech attacked the try line, a number of penalties against the home side saw the visitors on the scoresheet with a try score under the posts, with the conversion added Tigers lead 19-7 at the half time break.

Second half, started with the visitors on the attack, a chance to clear the ball with Alsop kicking up field, the kick was charged down, luckily the ball fell nice to Jordan Barnes, who sprinted forward, intern he freed Turner to race home for his 3rd try, and the bonus point 4th try, conversion added 26-7, the game was then halted after a clap of thunder nearby the referee called the players off until the storm passed.

After the restart Darley got his second try of the game, from a line out, Ely walked the ball towards the try line, as they crossed the line Darley touched the ball down, with the game coming to an end there was still time for one more try, as Matt McCarthy crossed the line to score under the posts, with Alsop added the conversion as the final score finished 38-7.
