Promotion for Ely Cadet

Congratulations to Ely Squadron’s newly promoted Cadet Warrant Officer Rory Donoghue who was appointed by Wing Commander Anthony Kelly FCMI RAFAC Officer Commanding Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing following Rory’s successful CWO promotion board interview on Sunday morning.

CWO Donoghue has enjoyed a remarkable cadet career over the past 5 years fully embracing all that the Air Training Corps has to offer including his Solo Gliding Pilot Training, Bronze Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, Gold ACLC Leadership, Static Line Parachuting, Overseas Adventure Training Camps, feildcraft and advanced leadership courses with the Army and RAF Regiment, and success in Rugby, Athletics and Football at Wing, Region and Corps representative levels as well as being selected as The Lord Lieutenants Cadet for Cambridgeshire.

This year Rory was due to attend a Buckingham Palace Garden Party and he was selected to travel to Hong Kong as part of the international Air Cadet Exchange as well as being a national finalist for the Westminster Award’s selection to take part in an expedition to visit South Africa to build wells in villages without fresh water supplies. Unfortunately these amazing opportunities have now had to be postponed until next year.

Rory has played a key role in the success of his Squadron leading Ely”s cadets by example over the past five years culminating in 1094 Squadron being selected -just before lockdown- as one of the top six squadrons in the country in this years Morris Trophy to find the best Squadron in The Corps.

Congratulations Cadet Warrant Officer Donoghue, a well deserved promotion for a role model to all cadets.
