Remembrance Services in Ely 2021

Remembrance Service – Sunday 14th November 2021

The City of Ely Parish Council and Royal British Legion Branch welcome all people in Ely to join us at the Cathedral on Sunday 14th November 2021 for a spectacular and very moving service, as well as a march through town, parade and Act of Remembrance in the Market Square.

This year due to the safety of those on parade and the general public we have made the decision to change the Parade format by removing the short march from St Mary’ Church to the Cathedral which took place at 1000hrs in past years and thus reduces risks for the Parish Council and Local Branch of the Royal British Legion whilst also reducing the burden on other resources.

The Royal British Legion, City of Ely Military Band, Standards and marching contingents are to take their places within the Cathedral before 1015hrs ahead of the Remembrance Service in the Cathedral at 1030hrs which will include a two minutes silence at 1100hrs and spectacular Poppy fall from the Lantern Tower.

At approximately 1115hrs, the City of Ely Military Band, Standards and marching contingents will parade from Ely Cathedral via The Gallery, Minster Place, High Street to the Market Place for the wreath laying service at the Ely War Memorial concluding with a further two minutes silence followed by a March Past the War Memorial to take the Salute from the Lord Lieutenant.

The following Health and Safety guidance has been strongly recommended by the ECDC SAG for both 11th and 14th November events:

  • Anyone attending should carryout regular Covid lateral flow tests before and following the event.
  • Social distancing should be adhered to
  • Facemasks should be worn

Road Closures for the Parade will be:

1015hrs to approx. 1230hrs – High Street and Forehill closed

1100hrs to 1130hrs – Gallery shut until Parade clears into High Street.

As ever our friends at the paper will be reporting on it and Spotted in Ely will be live streaming the event for those who cannot attend. We also thank St John’s Ambulance, Ian and Lisa’s Star Roadshow, Ely Markets and the Neighbourhood watch team for their continued support.
