Sign Up for the Summer Reading Challenge at your Local Library Today!

Young readers are being encouraged to sign up for the national Summer Reading Challenge at their nearest library in Cambridgeshire to join a nature-themed challenge that will inspire them to stand up for the planet.

The Summer Reading Challenge is run annually by the Reading Agency, with this year’s theme being Wild World Heroes. The challenge is open to pre-school and primary school aged children and is designed for all reading abilities. It is free to take part.

To complete the challenge, children must read six books of their choice by the end of the summer holidays. For each book completed, they will receive a sticker and for completing the challenge they will receive a certificate and medal.

Children can sign up for the challenge at their local library or online at https://cambridgeshire-self.achieveservice.com/service/Registration_Libraries_Summer_Reading_Challenge_2021.

To take part, you must be a library member but you can sign up at the same time as joining the challenge.

Councillor Tom Sanderson, Chair of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Communities, Social Mobility and Inclusion committee, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a great opportunity for children to get reading this summer, and discover the wide range of books available at our libraries. You can read any book you like, whether it’s fiction, non-fiction or a picture book.

“We’ve already had over 3,500 children sign up for the challenge in Cambridgeshire and there’s still time if you are not already taking part.

“For inspiration, the Book Sorter facility on the Summer Reading Challenge website can recommend books for you to read. If you don’t have access to a computer or smartphone at home, you can come into our libraries and use the PCs there. They are available all day and you don’t have to book.”
