PIPING DESIGN ENGINEER

Location: Ely, Cambridgeshire

Position Type: Full-time, permanent

Hours of Work: 0900-1700 Monday to Friday

We are seeking an experienced Piping Designer, preferably with a history of working on bespoke engineering packages for the oil and gas industry.

Main duties include:
•Reading and interpretation of:

o Process drawings (such as P&IDs)

o Mechanical design information (such as Piping Specifications)

o Customer-specific design requirements (such as size limitations, maintenance access and connection preferences)
•Preparing detailed conceptual designs and piping layouts for complex packages in 2D and 3D CAD, for onshore and offshore projects (AutoCAD or similar)
•Resolving technical queries and ensuring that all design changes are captured by the change control process
•Producing design drawings and BOMs for the project and participating in design reviews; checking and approving documents where necessary
•Providing input to project planning for completion within the budget and schedule, ensuring that all design work is carried out in accordance with schedules and the project plan
• Reviewing drawings and vendor documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements
•Liaising with our Mechanical Design Partners and other disciplines

Candidates applying will be expected to have previous experience of complex piping design in a similar environment, along with a high degree of proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably AutoCAD Plant 3D); they will also be knowledgeable of current legislation and relevant standards, such as the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED).

A thorough understanding of piping systems, pressure ratings and the application of pipe stress analysis is essential and knowledge of equipment associated with the Oil & Gas Industry would be beneficial. Also required is an HND or equivalent educational level in a relevant discipline with sufficient post-qualification experience.

This is mainly an office-based role, although some travel to our workshop in South Wales may be required from time to time.
