All Welcome at St Mary's Summer Party!

An historic church in central Ely is opening its gardens this weekend for a family friendly Summer Celebration.

The free event at St Mary’s Church, next to Oliver Cromwell’s House on St Mary’s Street, will take place on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd September. From midday there’ll be balloon modelling, craft tables, inflatables, face painting, a BBQ and home made cream teas served in a vintage style café.

There will also be children’s entertainment from KD Theatre Productions, with performances at 12:30 and 3:15pm. There’ll be lots of fun and sing-along-songs aboard the Jolly Roger as Buccaneer Becky and Sea Dog Sally ask the audience to help with their quest to find the buried treasure!

Organiser Lisa Olsworth-Peter, who runs the Ely Pop Up Gospel Choir, said: “We want to welcome everyone to St Mary’s for an afternoon full of fun, games and excitement! St Mary’s is very family friendly and we look forward to seeing lots of children and grown ups enjoying themselves in the grounds of our beautiful church.”

St Mary’s Vicar, Chris Hill, added: “Our church is community of all generations – lots of babies and lots of octogenarians! We love it when we come together to celebrate life and faith. We’d love you to join in the fun with us on the 2nd of September as we gather for our Summer Fun Day. Everyone is welcome at St Mary’s – whoever you are, wherever you are from – come and say hello!”

KD Theatre Productions was formed in 2003 by founders Daniel Bell and Katherine Hickmott, at the time only 13 years old. KD Theatre Productions has since grown and now produces numerous shows across the UK. Operating from their home base in Cambridgeshire, KD always has a busy calendar; staging various productions throughout the year, from Full Scale Musicals to Family Shows. Their work has taken them right across the country, including the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival where they produced three sell out musical productions.
