A good day for 10is Academy!

The 12 & Under 10is Academy team defeated the Cambourne LTC team on Saurday in a shoot out tie-break. The “Team Tennis” competition consisted of 4 single matches and 2 doubles.

With some of the first team players away for Easter, 10is Academy had to field players from 1 and 2 age groups below; yet the 10is players started the competition strong by clinching one point for one of the doubles and one out of the two single points.

The young tandem of Jeremy and Ben defeated Cambourne’s 2nd pair, 6-4, 6-1.

At the number two spot, James won his single match 6-3, 6-0 while Jack – our number one on the day – lost a tight match 3-6, 4-6 giving his opponent some hard times.

The next half saw Cambourne working hard on their defensive game as they won the double match and the next single match (Jack and James lost 3-6, 6-7 (4-7), Ben lost 3-6 ret.).

10is Academy needed a win to level up the match and play the shoot out tie-break. Jeremy, our youngest player, confidently dismissed his opponent 6-2, 6-1.

A double tie-break shoot out had to be played (first team to win 10 points). 10is Academy sent James and Jeremy who took a nail biting victory 10-8.

“It was a solid performance overall by the team”, team captain Sandrine Harvey said. “We’ve made a lot of progress in our groundstrokes and serves recently. I am super proud of the boys: they kept the winning spirit and never gave up.”

On that same day, another 10is Academy player also celebrated a victory. Georgia competed in Gosling and won her 4 matches: 4-3 (5-3), 4-2, 4-0, 4-1. She is currently ranked 19 in the county and the wins will get her closer to the top 10.

The 12U will hold their final home match of the season at home against Mike’s Tennis Academy on Sunday 16 June 2019.

Come and support the team!
