Allow extra time for tractors – and only overtake when it's safe, say police

Think tractor when driving around East Cambridgeshire is the message from police – and only overtake when it is safe to do so.
The A142 is particularly congested with agricultural traffic and high sided vehicles at this time of the year.

Police are advising drivers to be extra patient and take special care along this route in particular, and to factor in extra journey time, as there is a high likelihood you’ll be stuck behind a slow moving vehicle for some of your journey.
Sgt Phil Priestley advises: “This is part and parcel of rural life – the farming community and the farming economy is key to the surrounding area – but it can cause frustration for drivers.

“Don’t be tempted into taking a questionable overtake – head on collisions are always the most likely to lead to fatalities.”
He advises to factor in an extra 10 or 15 minutes into normal journey times to compensate for delays.
“If you are running late, pull over and make a phone call to advise someone – and try to take the pressure off yourself arriving quickly.”
