As one era ends in Ely, a new one begins as one shop closes and another opens

Ely has a very strong independent shopping culture but even our long-established brands have to move on. Duck Egg Blue Interiors on Forehill today announced they are closing their shop in Ely but it’s not the end for their business as they expand into pasture new.

No sooner was this announced than we found Thyme Florists on St Mary’s Street about to begin a shop share venture with a bread seller from Ely Market.

Duck Egg Blue is run by Tracey and Funella, life long friends and they have become like family to each other. They offer not only sales of items but also design consultation services plus made to measure services, which it seems is what is moving to their new location of Stradsett near Downham Market.

In their Facebook post this afternoon, the above said, “From mid-July 2019 after 10 years, Duck Egg Blue Interiors will be closing our Ely shop and relocating our made to measure curtain blind and interior service to our new design studio.

“We cover Downham Market, Swaffham, Ely and surrounding areas. Call us for an appointment or a chat or visit us”.

Back in 2015, we spent time with Tracey and Funella in their store

There is good news for independent shops however in that Thyme Florists announce a service that will share the shop within their store but no further have been given except for it will be filled a bread maker on Ely Market. It looks like it’s to be called “Grain Culture”.
