Beds and Cambs Cadets Presented with Army Cadet Force Awards

Ely Squadron’s senior cadet, Flight Sergeant Rory Donoghue has returned home after a week away with the Army Cadets on The Saint Martins Plain Army Training Ground.

Flight Sergeant Donoghue was joined by four other Air Cadets from Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing:
Cpl Hope (Spalding) Squadron
Cdt Paszka (Holbeach) Squadron
Cpl Fletcher (Cranfield) Squadron and Sgt Keenan (Linton) Squadron when all five were invited to participate in the Army Cadet Force 3 Star Feild Leadership Course.

The week involved leadership training, fieldcraft and infantry skills training as well as patrolling and ambush exercises in the field using blank firing rifles and pyrotechnics as well as illustrating their long range target shooting skills with live ammunition.

Having successfully completed the course and excelling on the the shooting range the cadets were awarded the ACF’s 3 Star badge and some even attained the Army Cadet’s Long Range Marksmanship badge.

The week culminated in a formal dinner attended by guests of honour including our own Wing 2IC Squadron Leader Dave McMillan. The following day the ACF held a joint passing out parade attended by parents.

Flight Lieutenant Debs Evans (The Beds & Cambs Shooting Officer) who organised the exchange camp and who accompanied the cadets said “We intend this to be the first of many joint exercises where Army Cadets and Air Cadets can work closely together sharing skills and experiences on similar exchanges”.
